Kent Wildlife Park welcomes an exciting new arrival!

Kent Wildlife Park are extremely excited to welcome the birth of a critically-endangered black rhino, the three-week-old calf, who is still unnamed at Port Lympne Wild Animal Park, near Hythe, is likely to be moved to an outside enclosure next week.

Keepers said the birth brought the number of critically-endangered black rhinos housed by The Aspinall Foundation to 19.

The Sunda Clouded Leopard X 2

Scientists have confirmed that there are two distinct forms of the Sunda Clouded Leopard,

one living in Sumatra, the other on Borneo.

Shark Fin Soup!

On Sunday 16th January 2011 at 9.00pm, Channel 4 screened a documentary called 'Gordon Ramsay: Shark Bait' and involves Gordon Ramsey setting off on a quest to investigate the controversial dish, shark fin soup.

It's estimated that each year 100 million sharks are killed worldwide, and Gordon wants to find out if the slaughter is really necessary. Sharks are both terrifying and beautiful, but experts believe overfishing is threatening to drive a third of the world's open ocean shark species to extinction.

Incredibly, some of the most threatened species remain untouched by international fishing regulations. What Gordon discovers on his journey leads him to campaign against the brutal and destructive shark fishing industry.

The programme is available to watch until Tuesday 15th February on Channel 4's 4OD website.

White Tailed Eagle spotted over the New Forest.

There have been reports that a rare White Tailed Eagle has been spotted soaring high over the New Forest. The White Tailed Eagle went extinct in Britain in the 1800s and has since been reintroduced to Scotland.

ANATOMY OF AN INSTITUTION EXHIBITION

Gavin Parry and David Penny of Anatomy Projects are currently exhibiting at the Holden Gallery MMU until 15th December. The project entitled 'Anatomy of an Institution Project' includes photographs from the same camera that was used to shoot the one hundred extInked Ambassadors. ExtInked will not be featured in this exhibition but it will definitely be worth checking out.

Project: Frozen Ark

Nottingham University are working with a network of conservationists, vets and scientists from all over the world to collect and freeze cells from endangered species with the hope that one day we can create our very own Jurassic Park!

Dr Ann Clarke, one of the Frozen Ark's founders, comments: "Like Dolly the sheep, although scientists do not like to talk too much about this, there is a very real possibility that we might be able to one day bring back an extinct or a very endangered species."
